Building Self Esteem and Overcoming Problem Habits – A Client Review

Posted April 30th, 2012

One key factor which contributes significantly to low self-esteem in adulthood, is repeatedly using old ineffective habits – without realizing we are doing it!

Do you ever find yourself in certain situations saying “I wish I hadn’t done that” or “I wish I didn’t feel this way” and, “next time, I will not do that again.” Then sure enough, the next time a similar situation occurs, before you know it you’ve had the same reaction and used the same habit, again! It’s like you cannot stop yourself, even when you consciously want to. Very frustrating!

Thankfully, with education, understanding and some new strategies, low self-confidence can be a thing of the past. Here’s what a recent client says about how our self-esteem counselling helped them overcome problematic impulses and habits, to build stronger and more reliable self-confidence than ever before.

“It has been a real pleasure working with you! You’ve made me understand things about myself that I didn’t before and I’m confident the way I’ve grown in the last couple of months will be long lasting!

I came to the counselling service with extremely low confidence and was suffering from frequent blushing. I was hoping that the therapy would help me stop blushing completely. In fact what has happened is that I’ve delved very deeply into the issues surrounding my embarrassment and low self esteem.

Daniella helped me understand the root causes of my problems. She helped me understand that I was responding to situations as part of learned behaviour – and now was the time to realise that I don’t need to go through those same emotional responses; I’m a different person now.

I found Daniella to be compassionate and sympathetic – but in a helpful way, not in an over the top way. And this quality typifies her approach to therapy. She wants to help. And she tailors the sessions to what you need. I really liked that Daniella was experienced in so many different areas of psychology and she used lots of different strategies in our sessions. She pushed me to go a bit deeper than I necessarily thought I needed to go but in an environment that felt safe and encouraging.

The outcome is that my confidence and happiness have been vastly improved – I feel like a different person at the end of the sessions to the person I was when I started the session. I think the thing about Daniella is that her observations, her lessons, really stay with you and are about longevity – changing your life for the better in the long term, not just a quick fix. I really can’t recommend her enough!”
